Showcase: NES Arrested Development Games

In honor of the return of Arrested Development in the spring of 2013, I present to you Jesse Eisemann's animated Nintendo\Arrested Development mashups. Teamocil!

Just announced: the original ten-episode run of the new season has been expanded to possibly fifteen episodes at best, and a good round dozen if nothing else.

Triptych: Sugar Rush

"Official Wreck-It Ralph Pixelated Plush" (11") from The Disney Store

"I'm Gonna Wreck It!" by "Dapper" Dan Schoening

"Famicom Art Project: Ruin" (90° rotation) by Marc Short

Guys, Wreck-It Ralph is out! I haven't had a chance to go see it yet but apparently I am in the minority because it's currently the #1 movie at the U.S. box office. Excellent! Good job, everybody! Cigars all around!

Double Triptych: Retro, Imaginary Games for Movies and TV Shows

"Flight of the Conchords: Season 2" by Max Atom
(Full game download here!)

"Scruffy For Atari" by Ron Workman

"A Game of Ice & Fire II" (t-shirt) by Drew Wise

"Inception" by Penney Design

"Hunger Retro Game" by Drew Wise

"ConfederVania II: Abraham's Quest" by Timothy Lim

Sorry for the unwieldy title, but I'm working with a pretty specific theme today: box art for imaginary games based on contemporary movies and TV shows, if they were made for the NES or Atari 2600.

These have been piling up for a while, which is why there are two entries from Drew Wise in the mix. The Flight of the Conchords game seen above is NOT imaginary, as someone has elected to make an entire 8-bit game based on the adventure of Bret and Jemaine. And that last entry is, of course, inspired by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Also, I would play all of these games. In fact, I'm playing one of them right now.

Triptych: Time For Adventures

"Adventure Time: The Game" by Mike Gaboury1

"The Ice King" by Eric Ridgeway2

"It's Adventure Time!" by Mike Krahulik3

1 I've posted about Mike's imaginary-but-he-keeps-working-on-it-so-maybe-eventually-real Adventure Time game before; these level samples make me yearn for the real thing all the more.
2 Serious Ice King is serious.
3 One of the covers for "Adventure Time #5" by Penny Arcade stalwart Gabe. I particularly like this because it's just Finn and Jake hanging out at home, playing with BMO. Adventures are great and everything but sometimes you just wanna chill out at home playing videogames with your friends.

Showcase: LCD Handheld Games

"Fight Club" by SubG

"The Exorcist" by SubG

"The Wire" by Defiant Cement

"Minecraft" by dotJPG

"Shadow of the Colossus" by melaQuit

Gamers of a certain age will remember these handheld games that pre-dated Nintendo's Gameboy. I myself had quite a collection of Tiger LCD handhelds back in '86 and '87, before I managed to score a Gameboy; I'm sure they're still in a box in my parents' house somewhere, gathering dust.

Anyway, the always-witty Photoshop goblins over at SomethingAwful have tackled the question, "What if LCD handheld games were still being made today?", not once but THRICE, and this is a small sampling of their output.

Showcase: Jude Buffum's Jurassic President Series

"Jurassic President, Episode 1: American History Rex"

"Jurassic President, Episode 16: High Score and Seven Years Ago"

"Jurassic President, Episode 26: Stalin For Time"

Former US Presidents versus historical villains, atop cybernetic dinosaurs, attacking each other with energy cannons. THIS IS THE PERFECT GAME.

I also dig how Stalin's videogame avatar looks like Mario.
