Showcase: StarRoivas' Atari Cartridges (Part II)

I've posted a Showcase on StarRoivas' series of demade modern games as Atari cartridges before, back when he\she\they went by the name Bunnell. Since then, I've discovered that despite the name change, StarRoivas has been hard at work creating new entries, including a few revisions of older entries. Here are a few that stand out.

Showcase: 72 Pins

I've been meaning to do a Showcase entry on 72 Pins ever since they first opened up shop last, what, September or so? Anyway, their deal is this: for $16, you can get a custom NES cartridge printed with demake-style game art (the above are only a small sampling of the catalogue they have available). While I would admittedly kill for an actual 8-bit Silent Hill or Okami game, I applaud them for elevating the cartridge to a bona fide art form. Go buy some stuff from them!

Triptych: Darling It's Better Down Where It's Wetter

(Click for full-size)
"Beyond The Sea" by Alex Slevin1

"Welcome To Rupture" by Niel Venter2

"Street Fighter Bioshock" by Bose3

1 This is just a stunning piece of work, and really encapsulates the claustrophobic loneliness of Bioshock.
2 Cthulhu showing up as the end boss in Bioshock is the only thing that could've made that game better for me. Just sayin'.
3 I thought I had posted this Bioshock fighting game demake ages ago, but it turns out I didn't. That Big Daddy is going to wipe the floor with that Splicer. Mark my words.

Triptych: Steamboat Rockman Edition

"The Year Is 193X" by Rongs1234

"American Heroes" (t-shirt) by Beware1984

"1920s Pop Culture Collaboration" (t-shirt) by the RBC and the RBA

Can you really call it a demake when the goal format predates videogames? I SAY YES.

Pixellated Album Covers by CodyWalton, Imploding and TheDorkReport

You know what I love? Album art. In this day and age of non-physical media, it seems like album covers are becoming less and less critical - most people will download an album without ever looking at the album's cover, much less purchase that album based on its visual presentation. Having said that, a good album is often defined by its cover, and while music should always speak for itself, album art can complement and amplify a record's themes and motifs.

Cody Walton, Imploding and The Dork Report are a trio of artists who have taken it upon themselves to demake classic album covers by presenting 16x16 versions of them. For the most part, these album covers are so iconic that even within the confines of just 256 pixels, the original is pretty readily recognisable.

Mouse-over the images if there are any you aren't immediately familiar with, or you just want to compare the 16x16 version to the original. (Note that this is a pretty image-heavy post, so wait for the page to load fully for the mouse-over to work.)
